UN CC:Learn is proposing a package of 5 free courses that will help you to become climate change literate and a force for positive change in your school and your community. The UN launched a trial version of its climate change teacher academy in the UK this year, and the course was made available to teachers around the world.

By fostering awareness, capacity building and innovation climate change learning helps communities and individuals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and effectively adapt to the changing climate. This innovative training kit, entitled UNESCO Course for Secondary Teachers on Climate Change Education for Sustainable Development (CCESD) is designed to give teachers confidence, through a series of six-day programmes, to help young people understand the causes and consequences of climate change today. It proposes a pedagogical framework, exercises, regional resource and facilitation guidelines to teacher educators.

A short quiz at the end of each module allows you to verify if you have achieved these learning objectives. Once you have completed and passed the 5 required courses, you receive the final badge and become a UN Climate Change Accredited teacher. It is divided into six modules, each taking an average of 2 hours to complete. The course suggests that the teaching of climate change should go beyond the science classroom. A combination of related work experience and completion of all core curriculum courses and elective requirements is required for this designation.

The curriculum is comprehensive in that it includes the activities, assessments, and materials to carry out an entire unit on climate change.
